According to testimony, Musk discussed his ambition to outpace Google in AI development. When Achiam questioned the feasibility of this goal, Musk reportedly responded with the insult that later inspired the trophy’s inscription. Years later, the incident resurfaced as part of the legal dispute over OpenAI’s nonprofit status and Musk’s departure.
The trial, which centers on contract law and OpenAI’s founding principles, took an unexpected turn with the trophy’s revelation. While the artifact’s relevance to the case remains unclear, it provided a moment of levity amid complex legal arguments.
