Pastor Mark Burns, a prominent spiritual advisor to former President Donald Trump, has taken to social media to clarify the nature of a newly unveiled, gold-covered statue of the former president in Doral, Miami.
"Let me be clear: this is not a golden calf. We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone," Burns wrote on Twitter on Friday, August 16, 2024.
The statue, named "Don Colossus", was officially dedicated the previous week in Doral, Florida. While former President Trump described it on Truth Social as "The Real Deal - GOLD," Burns pointed out that the statue is not made of solid gold.
Unlike the biblical golden calf, which was crafted from melted Egyptian jewelry, the Trump statue is cast in bronze and covered in gold leaf. This makes it significantly less valuable than a solid gold sculpture. Additionally, the statue does not resemble a calf, as calves are young cows, and the statue clearly does not depict one.
Burns' clarification comes amid growing public discussion about the statue's symbolism and the nature of its worship. The pastor's statement reinforces the Christian belief in monotheistic worship, distinguishing the statue as a symbolic representation rather than an object of veneration.
