Mahomes Shows Positive Signs in ACL Recovery
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an encouraging update on quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ recovery from a torn ACL sustained last December. Mahomes has advanced to the stage of throwing the football again, marking a key milestone in his rehabilitation.
Reid stated that Mahomes "is in a good position to be able to do some things" during the team’s upcoming offseason program. The Chiefs are scheduled to enter the final phase of their offseason work on May 26, and Reid emphasized a cautious approach to ensure Mahomes continues progressing safely before making any definitive decisions about his participation.
Reid Highlights Cautious Approach to Mahomes’ Return
“Once you start the clock, then the clock’s got to be rolling,” Reid said, via Pete Sweeney of the Kansas City Star. “You just have to evaluate what you want to do there. But he’s in a position where he can do everything, I think.”
Training Camp Implications for Week 1 Readiness
Reid indicated that if Mahomes avoids being placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list at the start of training camp, it would significantly improve his prospects of being ready for the Chiefs’ season opener in Week 1. The team’s medical staff and coaching personnel are closely monitoring his progress to determine the safest timeline for his return to full game action.
