Just 24 hours ago, the idea of Patriots coach Mike Vrabel stepping into the team’s draft room tonight would have seemed improbable. Now, it’s an official expectation.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Vrabel is expected to be present in the Patriots’ draft room for the first round tonight.
On Thursday morning, Vrabel announced he would not be with the team for the third day of the draft, which covers rounds four through seven. Instead, he will attend counseling.
The announcement came shortly after the New York Post sought comment from Vrabel regarding newly surfaced photos from March 2020 featuring him and former ESPN/Athletic reporter Dianna Russini.
The Patriots also confirmed on Wednesday that either Vrabel or Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf would be available to reporters after the team’s first-round pick. If the Patriots make their selection in round one, Vrabel is expected to address the media tonight. Should the team trade out of the first round, Wolf will speak to reporters on Friday.
According to MassLive’s Mark Daniels, Vrabel’s presence in the draft room is contingent on the Patriots’ activity in the first round.
