A bright orange McLaren 600LT was destroyed after crashing into a light pole in Toronto late last week. The incident occurred near the iconic Casa Loma castle in central Toronto, Canada.
Local police have arrested the driver for impaired driving. Both the driver and a passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash happened around midnight on Thursday.
The McLaren 600LT, one of the rarest models in the Sport Series lineup, was reportedly limited to as few as 1,500 examples worldwide. Its destruction marks a significant loss for enthusiasts.
How the Crash Unfolded
According to police reports, the driver lost control at an intersection, mounted a curb, and plowed through several bike racks before colliding with a light pole. Footage from the scene shows the orange 600LT traveling alongside a green McLaren 570S at the time of the crash. The impact destroyed the front end of the car, scattering parts across a nearby park.
Unless rebuilt, the wrecked 600LT may be sold for parts only.
Toronto’s History of High-End Car Crashes
This is not the first time a luxury sports car has been wrecked in this area. Resident Alex Santis noted that drivers often speed through the neighborhood, and he recalled a Chevrolet Corvette crashing in nearly the same spot years earlier.
McLaren 600LT: A Rare and Powerful Sports Car
McLaren unveiled the 600LT in mid-2018 as a follow-up to the more powerful 675LT. It retained the same formula: more power, less weight, and sharper aerodynamics. The car’s 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine produced 592 hp and 457 lb-ft (620 Nm) of torque.
