The Seattle Seahawks have made a roster move, announcing the release of running back Cam Akers on Monday. The decision comes shortly after the team selected rookie running back Jadarian Price with the 32nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The addition of Price has reportedly shifted the depth chart, pushing Akers out of the backfield rotation. Akers, who joined the Seahawks last season, played in three games for the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 before appearing in three more for Seattle. During his time with the team, he did not record any offensive snaps but contributed on special teams, returning two kickoffs for a total of 54 yards.
Akers also made one postseason appearance with the Seahawks, earning his second Super Bowl ring as part of the team’s roster. His first Super Bowl victory came with the Los Angeles Rams following the 2021 season. Over the course of his NFL career, Akers has also played for the Houston Texans.
With Akers’ departure, the Seahawks’ running back group now includes Emanuel Wilson, Zach Charbonnet, George Holani, Kenny McIntosh, and Jacardia Wright.
