Colts head coach Shane Steichen delivered a positive update on quarterback Daniel Jones’s recovery from a torn Achilles on Tuesday. The announcement follows a Monday update from Colts general manager Chris Ballard.

Steichen revealed that Jones has resumed dropping back and throwing after suffering the injury on December 7. Based on Jones’s current rehabilitation progress, Steichen stated via the team’s website that the Colts anticipate him being ready for training camp.

Will Daniel Jones Start Week 1?

If Jones is cleared for training camp, the next question will be whether he is ready to play in Week 1 of the regular season. Steichen emphasized caution, saying,

"I know he's ripping and roaring and ready to go, but we gotta be smart."

Jones Shares Surgeon with Jayson Tatum

Jones underwent surgery with the same surgeon as Celtics star Jayson Tatum, who returned to action nine months after tearing his Achilles and has since played at a high level. Steichen noted that he has spoken with Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens about Jones’s rehabilitation approach. Steichen said Jones is progressing "the same way" as Tatum did.

The Colts are hoping the parallels between Jones and Tatum continue, with Jones making a successful return to the field.
