Sony has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VIII, marking a significant departure from the design language of its predecessors. While previous Xperia 1 models retained a consistent vertical camera layout since 2020, the new device introduces a bold redesign with a chunky square camera island.
The Xperia 1 VIII retains the three-camera setup but reorganizes the lenses into a square block, accompanied by the flash and a raised Sony logo. This new configuration contrasts sharply with the top-left corner placement used in the last six iterations of the Xperia 1 series.
In addition to the redesign, Sony has enhanced the phone's camera capabilities. The telephoto camera has been substantially improved, and the device now includes an AI camera assistant, described as an evolved version of Google's Camera Coach. This feature aims to assist users in capturing better photos by providing real-time guidance and suggestions.
The Xperia 1 VIII represents Sony's first major redesign of its flagship Xperia 1 line in years, signaling a shift toward innovation in both aesthetics and functionality.
