The Atlanta Falcons' quarterback situation has taken a pivotal turn as Michael Penix Jr. resumes throwing just six months after tearing his left ACL. The uncertainty surrounding Penix's recovery led the team to sign veteran quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the offseason.

The Falcons shared video footage of Penix throwing to wide receiver Drake London at the team's facility in Flowery Branch, Georgia. According to a team spokesperson quoted by ESPN's Marc Raimondi, Penix is currently participating in Phase 2 of the Falcons' offseason program, which includes individual drills and skill-specific work.

Penix, 26, has a history of ACL injuries, having torn the ligament three times in eight years—twice in his right knee during his college career. Despite this, he remains optimistic about his timeline, stating he expects to be ready for the Falcons' Week 1 matchup.

However, the question remains: Will Penix's recovery progress be fast enough to challenge Tagovailoa for the starting quarterback role? Since being drafted eighth overall in 2024, Penix has started 12 games, accumulating 2,757 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
