The Dallas Cowboys have reason to believe their defense will improve in 2024, thanks in part to the health of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. After missing his entire rookie season in 2023 with a torn ACL, Overshown returned to deliver a strong performance, recording 90 tackles, five sacks, an interception returned for a touchdown, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in 13 games.
However, a subsequent knee injury sidelined him for most of the 2024 season. Following a brief five-game return, Overshown emerged from the offseason fully healthy and ready to build on his progress.
On Thursday, Overshown expressed optimism about his upcoming campaign, emphasizing the importance of his offseason recovery.
"Biggest blessing I can ask for," Overshown said, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com. "I feel like everybody knows when I'm healthy, I'm one of the best linebackers in the league. That's not to toot my own horn, but the film and the stats speak for itself when I'm on the field. Being healthy is the number one way to stay on the field and be able to do what I do. The fact that I get to go through this whole offseason as a healthy man, and coming into training camp healthy, I feel like people ain't seen my best yet. So, I know it's going to be one of my best years."
The Cowboys addressed defensive weaknesses in the offseason, but Overshown’s return to peak form remains a critical factor. His presence alone could mark a significant step forward for a unit that struggled in his absence.
