SpaceX and Cursor Forge AI Partnership with Potential $60B Acquisition

SpaceX and Cursor, an AI-focused software company, have announced a groundbreaking partnership that may culminate in a $60 billion acquisition by SpaceX later this year. The collaboration aims to develop the world’s leading AI for coding and knowledge work.

SpaceX’s official statement on X: "SpaceXAI and @cursor_ai are now working closely together to create the world’s best coding and knowledge work AI."

According to SpaceX, the agreement provides two potential paths: a $10 billion investment in Cursor or a full acquisition for $60 billion, both slated for 2026. The timing of Cursor’s integration into Elon Musk’s expanding corporate network remains unspecified.

This partnership follows SpaceX’s acquisition of xAI, Musk’s AI venture that also owns X, earlier in 2026. SpaceX is also preparing for a historic IPO this summer, which is expected to be the largest in history.

Cursor’s AI Coding Tool and Funding Plans

Cursor is widely recognized for its namesake AI coding assistant, which has gained significant traction among developers as a preferred "vibe coding" platform. The tool supports multiple AI models from providers such as OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and xAI.

In a statement, Cursor highlighted the partnership’s strategic benefits: "We've wanted to push our training efforts much further, but we've been bottlenecked by compute. With this partnership, our team will leverage xAI's Colossus infrastructure to dramatically scale up the intelligence of our models for coding and beyond."

Additionally, Cursor has been in discussions to raise a $2 billion funding round, reflecting its rapid growth and market demand.

Leveraging SpaceX’s Colossus Supercomputer

The collaboration centers on SpaceX’s Colossus training supercomputer, which boasts the equivalent of one million H100 GPUs. This infrastructure will enable Cursor to accelerate its model training, addressing past limitations caused by computational constraints.

The partnership underscores the intensifying competition in AI development, particularly in coding assistance tools, where Cursor has emerged as a key player.
