MADRID — Spanish authorities on Friday were preparing to receive more than 140 passengers and crew members from a hantavirus-stricken cruise ship en route to the Canary Islands. Health officials have announced they will conduct careful evacuations upon the vessel’s arrival.

The ship is expected to reach the Spanish island of Tenerife, located off the coast of West Africa, on Sunday. Authorities will transport passengers to a completely isolated and cordoned-off area, according to Virginia Barcones, head of Spain’s emergency services.
