Spotify is broadening its platform by integrating fitness content, including Peloton’s library of over 1,400 on-demand workout classes. This feature is available exclusively to Premium subscribers, while all users—both Free and Premium—can browse curated fitness playlists under the "fitness" genre.
The fitness category marks a significant expansion for Spotify, which has historically focused on music and podcasts. The company reports that nearly 70% of its Premium subscribers exercise monthly, and fitness content ranks as a top use case for its Prompted Playlist feature.
Workout sessions on Spotify are designed to be flexible. Users can switch between devices mid-workout, transitioning from a video on their TV to an audio-only version on their phone or smart speaker. Classes are also available for offline download, ensuring uninterrupted access.
While most fitness content is in English, Spotify offers some options in Spanish and German to cater to a global audience.
This expansion aligns with Spotify’s broader strategy to evolve into an all-in-one app. Recent updates include features like physical book purchases and group chat creation, further diversifying its offerings beyond audio entertainment.
