President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to fire FDA Commissioner Marty Makary amid ongoing disputes over flavored vape regulations and other policy disagreements, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Trump’s dissatisfaction with Makary has been widely noted in recent weeks. Last week, the Journal reported that the president became frustrated after Makary blocked the approval of blueberry, mango, and menthol vape flavors from manufacturer Glas. The commissioner cited concerns that these flavors would be too appealing to young and underage users, undermining efforts to prevent youth vaping.
The decision to block these flavors also complicated Trump’s campaign promise to “save vaping,” a stance aimed at appealing to voters who support vaping as an alternative to traditional smoking. Recent polling data reveals Trump’s approval rating among Gen Z voters has plummeted to just 24%, erasing most of the gains he secured with this demographic in 2024.
