New polling from the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research exposes deepening Republican discontent with President Donald Trump’s management of the cost-of-living crisis—a cornerstone of his 2024 campaign promises.
While 47% of Republicans overall disapprove of his handling of affordability, the sentiment varies sharply by age. Among Republicans under 45, disapproval spikes to 60%, compared to 40% among older GOP voters. These figures represent a decline from prior months, underscoring growing internal frustration within the party’s base—a critical bloc for Trump’s reelection bid.
Despite the erosion, Trump’s overall approval rating among Republicans remains at 67%. However, the cost-of-living crisis looms as a major warning sign for Republicans heading into the November elections.
National Disapproval Grows as Economic Struggles Intensify
Outside the GOP, Trump’s approval ratings continue to collapse. His overall approval rating stands at just 33% nationwide, while his economic job approval has dropped to 30%—a 8-point decline from the previous month.
Public dissatisfaction extends beyond economics. A majority—68% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the U.S.-Israeli joint military actions in Iran and Lebanon, further eroding his support.
The president’s rhetoric and social media activity—including Truth Social posts—have contributed to market volatility, while millions of Americans grapple with rising costs for essentials. As midterm elections loom in eight months, the mounting discontent poses a significant challenge for Trump’s political future.
