Valve’s Steam Controller officially launches on Monday, May 4, 2025, with a retail price of $99 in the United States. The device is designed to seamlessly connect with any system running the Steam client or the Steam Link app, including PCs, Macs, mobile devices, and the Steam Deck.
Future compatibility with the Steam Machine console and Steam Frame VR headset has been announced, though neither product has a confirmed release date. Originally scheduled for an early 2026 launch alongside the Steam Controller, Valve has since revised its timeline, stating in March 2025 that shipments are now expected in 2026.
Steam Controller Design and Functionality
As highlighted in our review, the Steam Controller is a well-built gamepad, particularly given its price point. Its design closely resembles the Steam Deck, featuring:
- Two trackpads beneath a pair of TMR thumbsticks
- A standard face button array
- Reactive and ergonomic build
- A compact charging and connection puck that attaches to the bottom of the controller
It is important to note that the Steam Controller is not a universal PC controller. It operates exclusively with Steam, requiring users to add games with third-party launchers—such as Overwatch, Valorant, Minecraft, or Fortnite—to their Steam library before use.

- United States: $99
