The fridge covered in Polaroids is a nostalgic snapshot of life’s adventures, get-togethers, and cherished moments. But lugging around a bulky instant camera or splurging on hit-or-miss instant film isn’t for everyone. Enter VidaBay’s Snap, a magnetic digital Polaroid that blends the charm of instant photos with modern NFC technology and a color E Ink screen.

Unlike traditional instant cameras, the Snap lets you change images as often as you want without charging a battery. Measuring just 4mm thick and 2.5 inches in size, this NFC E-Paper Fridge Magnet resembles Xteink’s X3 e-reader but lacks buttons, ports, or connectors. It’s essentially a tiny, fridge-friendly version of the Aura Ink digital photo frame.

How the VidaBay Snap Works

The Snap uses the same NFC chip found in smartphones that enable contactless payments. Images are wirelessly transferred by aligning your phone’s NFC antenna with the one inside the Snap’s lower left corner. The process takes about 25 to 30 seconds: 10 seconds for the actual transfer and the rest for the E Ink screen to refresh.

While devices like the Kindle Colorsoft use black-and-white e-paper with a color filter for faster refreshes, the Snap’s multi-pigment E Ink delivers richer colors at the cost of speed. The trade-off is worth it for those who prioritize image quality over instant updates.

Setting Up the Snap

Out of the box, the Snap includes a plastic screen protector printed with a guide to help position your smartphone for NFC alignment. However, this guide only works for iPhones. Android users must manually locate their device’s NFC chip, which can be tricky. The Snap and your phone need to be held extremely close—closer than most cases allow. For example, the Snap failed to work with an iPhone 16 Pro inside a leather Nomad case and a OnePlus 12 protected by a thin silicone case.
