Amazon’s Prime Air delivery drones, while improving, still face significant operational challenges despite reducing collisions with obstacles. Recent viral videos highlight ongoing issues with package placement accuracy.

A TikTok video shared by user @sk1mplyz captured an Amazon MK30 drone dropping a customer’s package onto the bank of a pond. The package immediately tumbled into the water, floating away like a cardboard boat.

“Uhh — it just threw it in the f***ing water!”

The video’s caption included trending hashtags such as #amazon, #viral, and #fyp, along with the song “Beauty And A Beat” by Justin Bieber.

Drones Frequently Miss Landing Zones

Despite allowing customers to set designated landing zones, Amazon’s drones often fail to hit the mark. Another video from summer 2025 showed an MK30 drone dropping a package dangerously close to a customer’s backyard pool. The drone’s powerful propellers then blew the box directly into the water.

In an interview with local media, property owner Daniel Munez revealed that Amazon had pre-selected the landing location by default. He stated:

“So we just let them choose it for us. I’ve actually had two people message me that had the same incident happen.”

Size and Weight Compound Delivery Challenges

While most Prime Air deliveries proceed without incident, the edge cases are hard to overlook. The MK30 drones measure approximately 5.5 feet in diameter and weigh around 80 pounds, making precision landings critical.

Amazon did not respond to a request for comment by press time.

Ongoing Issues with Amazon’s Delivery Drones

This incident follows reports of Amazon drones crashing into construction equipment and bursting into flames. The reliability of drone deliveries remains a concern as Amazon expands its autonomous delivery services.
