Nikita Bier, head of product at X, has unveiled custom timelines, a new feature enabling users to tailor their feeds based on specific topics of interest. Bier described the update as “one of the biggest changes to X” and a “huge undertaking” that required “many months” of development.
The feature allows users to pin up to 75 topics—including food, art, photography, business, finance, movies, and TV—to their home tab. By switching between topics, users can view the latest discussions related to their interests and hobbies. Bier noted that custom timelines are “powered by Grok’s understanding of every post with the algorithm’s personalization.”
Personalization works best for topics users already engage with regularly. The feature mirrors custom feeds offered by Bluesky and Threads, which have allowed users to pin topic-based timelines since 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Currently, X’s custom timelines is in early access and available exclusively to Premium subscribers on iOS. An Android rollout is expected “very soon.” Additionally, X has introduced a tool to snooze topics on the For You tab. Users can hide specific topics, such as politics or sports, for 24 hours. This tool is now available for Premium users on iOS and the web.
