Ford has officially confirmed the power and torque figures for the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC, a supercharged replacement for the now-discontinued GT500. The new model produces 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque from its blown 5.2-liter V8—an increase of 35 hp and lb-ft over the GT500.

While the power jump isn’t massive, the Dark Horse SC’s nearly 800-horsepower output pushes the limits of what’s feasible in a rear-wheel-drive street car. It sits between the 815-horsepower GTD and the standard Dark Horse in both performance and pricing, with the SC costing $105,485—roughly a third of the GTD’s price but significantly more than the base Dark Horse.

Track-Focused Upgrades for the Dark Horse SC

Ford positions the Dark Horse SC as a track-focused Mustang, though it doesn’t compete directly with the GTD. Key enhancements include:

  • Track Pack: Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and 20-inch carbon fiber wheels.
  • Weight Reduction: Deletion of the rear seat and replacement of summer tires with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, resulting in a 150-pound weight loss and improved grip.
  • Cooling and Aerodynamics: A new aluminum hood with a carbon fiber vent that generates 2.5 times the downforce of the standard Dark Horse when the rain tray is removed.
“Aerodynamics and cooling have been exclusively engineered for the Dark Horse SC’s supercharged V8’s extreme capabilities.”

Shelby’s Role in the Mustang Ecosystem

Despite the licensing deal between Carroll Shelby’s estate and Ford expiring, Shelby American—an independent company—continues to produce high-performance Ford models. These vehicles, while fast, come with premium price tags.
