Since its debut for the 2022 model year, Nissan’s third-generation Frontier pickup has established itself as a standout in the competitive mid-size truck segment. Two years after a mid-cycle refresh, Nissan is preparing further updates for the 2027 model year, led by the introduction of the new Frontier Sport Edition trim.

The current Frontier lineup includes the base S, mid-level SV, and top-tier PRO-4X (or PRO-X for 2WD models), with the latter featuring Bilstein shocks, an electronic locking differential, and other off-road enhancements. The Sport Edition package elevates the SV trim with select off-road features, appealing to enthusiasts seeking greater versatility without stepping into the PRO-4X tier.

Visually, the Frontier Sport Edition borrows cues from the PRO-4X, incorporating a black lower front fascia, grille, and mirrors. A bright yellow “Sport” badge adorns the side of the bed, while the interior features yellow accent stitching, door speaker surrounds, and center console grab handles.

The Sport Edition rides on 17-inch black wheels wrapped in 265/70R17 Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tires. Additional underbody protection includes an aluminum skid plate, and LED fog lights are added to the front bumper. Power remains unchanged, with the lineup’s proven 310-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6 engine carrying over. Pricing details will be announced later this summer.

Beyond the Sport Edition, Nissan is offering an All-Terrain Tire package for the SV trim. Meanwhile, the PRO-X and PRO-4X trims gain a Moonroof package when paired with the Convenience package. The Convenience package includes a spray-on bedliner, Utili-track Channel System for cargo securing, heated mirrors, and a Class IV hitch receiver. All Frontiers equipped with this package also feature a faster, more consistent Qi2-compatible wireless charger.

In color news, Alpine Metallic—a gray-green hue—joins the Frontier’s exterior palette, a color previously introduced on the Armada in 2025.

Nissan’s Frontier has been a staple in the automaker’s lineup since replacing the D21 Hardbody in 1998. The second-generation D40 Frontier was produced from 2005 to 2021 before the current D41 model debuted. Unlike its predecessors, which shared platforms with the global Navara, the D41 Frontier is uniquely designed for North America. It is available with king and crew cabs, in 2WD and 4WD configurations, and with five-foot or six-foot beds.
