The SB Nation Community Mock Draft returned for another season, bringing together all 32 NFL sites to simulate a full first-round draft ahead of the real event, scheduled for April 23–25, 2026.
Each site manager contributed a pick, accompanied by detailed reasoning. Following each selection, further analysis and final opinions were provided to contextualize the choices.
With the 18th overall pick in the 2026 SB Nation Community Mock Draft, Daily Norseman’s Christopher Gates and the Minnesota Vikings selected Kayden McDonald, a defensive tackle from Ohio State.
Why the Vikings Chose Kayden McDonald
Christopher Gates explained his reasoning behind the pick:
"I agree with the analysis that the Vikings need more beef in the middle of the defensive line than a new safety. Under Brian Flores’ defensive scheme, they require big bodies to fill gaps and prevent big runs, especially when blitzing. McDonald excels at this while also possessing the strength to collapse the pocket when needed."
Gates acknowledged that McDonald may not become a three-down player immediately in the NFL but expressed confidence in his ability to refine his physique, shed excess weight, and develop into a disruptive force in the interior.
Who Is Kayden McDonald?
Kayden McDonald (#98) is a defensive lineman for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He made a highlight-reel play on October 11, 2025, during a game against the Illinois Fighting Illini at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois, where he recovered a fumble to spark a defensive stand.
