The 2027 Audi Q9 three-row crossover SUV has been revealed, marking Audi’s strategic response to recent feedback and positioning the brand for a strong comeback. The Q9 debuts on July 28, with U.S. availability expected by the end of the year. It directly competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class and BMW X7, both of which have recently undergone or are preparing for significant updates.

While the Q9’s exterior remains under wraps, its size is undeniable. The SUV is described as the largest production Audi ever built, with dimensions comparable to its rivals. It features four electronically opening doors, operated via exterior handles or the infotainment touchscreen. The driver’s door can be configured to close automatically when the brake pedal is pressed or the seatbelt is fastened. Additionally, any door can be opened or closed remotely through the touchscreen, requiring three taps and a held digital button. Each door includes sensors to prevent collisions.

Inside the cabin, the Q9 prioritizes luxury and innovation. Audi has minimized the use of shiny piano-black plastics, opting instead for matte finishes, open-pore wood, carbon fiber weave, and stitched leather. The dashboard features a wool-like cloth trim to conceal inset speakers as part of the 4D surround-sound system. Ambient lighting runs along the base of the windshield, changing colors based on driving conditions—flashing red during automatic emergency braking or illuminating in sync with turn signals.

The Q9’s seating and storage solutions cater to families. The life-sized cupholders can accommodate large travel mugs like the Stanley tumbler, while the advanced sound system includes seat vibration technology for an immersive experience. The doors are equipped with small capacitors that store energy, ensuring they can open in emergencies even if the vehicle’s power supply fails.

Joel Feder, covering the reveal, noted the Q9’s blend of cutting-edge technology and thoughtful design, emphasizing Audi’s commitment to addressing past missteps with a bold new flagship model.
