The San Francisco 49ers have bolstered their secondary with the signing of experienced safety Patrick McMorris, as announced by his agents. The move comes after the team did not select a safety in the 2024 NFL Draft.
McMorris, a sixth-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2024, made six appearances as a rookie, recording one tackle. His 2024 season included stints with the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants, though he did not play in any regular-season games for either team. The Giants released him earlier this month.
Prior to his agreement with the 49ers, McMorris participated in a tryout with the Cleveland Browns during their recent minicamp.
In addition to McMorris, the 49ers also agreed to terms with undrafted rookie safety Jalen Stroman on Sunday, further strengthening the team’s defensive backfield.
The 49ers’ returning starting safeties include Ji'Ayir Brown and Malik Mustapha, who will anchor the secondary alongside McMorris and Stroman.
