Audi has rolled out a significant refresh for its Q4 E-Tron electric SUV, addressing previous criticisms and introducing a host of new features. The updated model now boasts a redesigned interior, enhanced range, faster charging capabilities, and advanced technology, including ChatGPT integration and bidirectional charging.

Key Updates and Improvements

The refreshed Audi Q4 E-Tron stands out with its new interior, which includes an optional 12-inch passenger display and ChatGPT integration. The cabin also features a panoramic display combining an 11.9-inch driver screen and a 12.8-inch central touchscreen. Additionally, an augmented reality head-up display is now available.

The base 201 hp (204 PS / 250 kW) model, equipped with a 59 kWh battery, now offers an additional 18 miles (29 km) of range, bringing its total to less than 290 miles (467 km) on a single charge. Higher-spec versions, such as the Q4 Sportback e-tron performance, can achieve up to 367 WLTP miles (591 km) on a charge. These top-tier models also benefit from faster charging, with the ability to charge at up to 185 kW, reducing the 10 to 80 percent top-up time to around 27 minutes.

Performance and Efficiency Gains

A revised rear motor, new power electronics, smarter software, and lower-friction transmission oil contribute to efficiency gains of approximately 10 percent over the outgoing model. The headline figure belongs to the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron performance, which can travel up to 367 WLTP miles (591 km). The same model’s 82 kWh battery can now charge at up to 185 kW, up from 175 kW previously.

The base model is available with a single motor and rear-wheel drive, while the mid-spec 282 hp (286 PS / 160 kW) model is now offered exclusively with rear-wheel drive, despite previously being available with all-wheel drive. The top-line 335 hp (340 PS / 250 kW) model remains Quattro-only.

Practical Upgrades for Outdoor Enthusiasts

The most significant practical upgrade is the introduction of bidirectional charging, a first for Audi. This feature allows the vehicle's battery to feed energy back into a home, supporting solar power storage or reducing electricity bills. This capability is available in select European markets as part of the Vehicle-to-Home system. Additionally, the towing capacity for Quattro versions has been increased to 1,800 kg (3,970 lbs), up by 400 kg (882 lbs).

Cabin and Convenience Features

The trunk offers 520 litres of space, expanding to 1,490 litres with the rear seats folded. An electric tailgate is now standard, aligning with the expectations for a premium vehicle. The refreshed Q4 E-Tron also aligns with other recent Audis, such as the larger Q6 e-tron and the A5, in terms of cabin technology and design.

Charging and Range Comparison

While the Q4 E-Tron's charging speed of 185 kW is an improvement, it still lags behind competitors like the Genesis GV60, which can achieve a 10 to 80 percent top-up in less than 20 minutes with its 250 kW charging capability. However, the Q4 E-Tron's range and charging improvements are notable steps forward for the model.
