The dispute centers on the FCC's approach to the bona fide news interview exemption, particularly concerning ABC's daytime talk show The View. ABC argues that the FCC's actions represent a major shift in policy and practice, which could chill free speech and require judicial oversight.
In a formal request, ABC urged the FCC to reaffirm its long-standing support for public interest services provided by broadcast stations. The network stated that the FCC's recent actions suggest a departure from established norms, necessitating intervention by the full Commission and potential court review.
Disney, which owns ABC, has joined the legal challenge, reinforcing the argument that the FCC's policies undermine constitutional protections for media organizations.
