Adrian Peterson’s recent visit to the Minnesota Vikings facility took an unexpected turn last week. While Peterson believed he was in town to address the team’s rookies ahead of minicamp, the Vikings had a far more significant announcement in store.

As Peterson filmed content for the team’s website, former Vikings defensive tackle John Randle entered the room and presented him with a display revealing his election to the franchise’s Ring of Honor.

Peterson, the seventh overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, spent a decade with the Vikings (2007–2016). During his tenure, he led the league in rushing three times, including a historic 2,097-yard season in 2012—the second-best single-season effort in NFL history. That year, he was named the league’s MVP, becoming the last non-quarterback to win the award.

Peterson holds multiple Vikings records, including:

  • All-time leader in rushing yards (11,747)
  • All-time leader in rushing touchdowns (97)
  • Single-game rushing record (296 yards in 2007)

In 2027, Peterson will be eligible for the first time for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, making a potential back-to-back honor possible in the near future.
