Aimee Lou Wood, star of The White Lotus, has taken a playful jab at last year’s controversial Saturday Night Live spoof of her in a new promo for this week’s SNL UK episode.

SNL UK Promo Teases Fake Teeth Controversy

The promo begins with cast members covering their mouths as Wood arrives, prompting cast member Paddy Young to warn, “Guys, she’s gonna know.” Wood then enters, expressing excitement about hosting and “wiping the slate clean.”

“I’m so excited. I can’t wait to get started! You know, especially after the whole thing in America with the teeth. It’s going to feel good to just wipe the slate clean.”

Wood’s excitement fades when she notices the cast still covering their mouths. She asks, “Have you guys got fake teeth in?” before concluding, “Wow, this is all just one big setup to humiliate me then. I thought ‘SNL UK’ would be different, but I was wrong.”

The twist? The cast reveals they’re wearing fake mustaches to capitalize on Paddy Young’s online popularity. The promo ends with Wood donning a fake mustache herself and embracing the cast in a group hug.

Background: The Controversial SNL Spoof

The promo is a cheeky reference to a controversy from last year, when Saturday Night Live U.S. aired a MAGA-themed spoof of The White Lotus Season 3, starring Scarlett Johansson and Jon Hamm.

In the spoof, SNL star Sarah Sherman portrayed Wood’s character, Chelsea, with exaggerated fake teeth. Wood publicly criticized the spoof on social media, calling it “mean and unfunny.”

“I did find the ‘SNL’ thing mean and unfunny. Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago. Yes, take the piss for sure — that’s what the show is about — but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”

Sherman later responded in an interview with Vanity Fair, expressing regret over the controversy.

“I was excited to play her because she’s so iconic, her character is so iconic, and I f—king obviously never meant to hurt anyone’s feelings. Never in a million years did I get into comedy to make anyone upset. I feel terrible that anyone would feel bad.”
