A24 has officially set the release date for Alex Garland’s highly anticipated film adaptation of the hit video game ‘Elden Ring’ for March 3, 2028.
The studio also confirmed that the film will receive IMAX support, marking A24’s continued expansion into mainstream box office success. This follows the studio’s recent achievement with Timothée Chalamet’s ‘Marty Supreme’, which grossed $180 million worldwide and set a new A24 studio record.
Based on FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed 2022 dark fantasy game, ‘Elden Ring’ is expected to surpass that record, leveraging its massive and dedicated fanbase. The film’s full cast has now been revealed, joining the previously announced trio of Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, and Callie Spaeny.
The newly announced cast members include:
- Tom Burke
- Havana Rose Liu
- Sonoya Mizuno
- Jonathan Pryce
- Ruby Cruz
- Nick Offerman
- John Hodgkinson
- Emma Laird
- Jefferson Hall
- Peter Serafinowicz
‘Elden Ring’ is developed by game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and features worldbuilding by George R.R. Martin, who also serves as a producer on the film. The story is set in The Lands Between, a fantasy world plunged into chaos after the destruction of the titular Elden Ring, which once maintained order. Players take on the role of a member of The Tarnished, a group of exiles tasked with defeating overwhelming foes to restore the Elden Ring.
The film project originated from Garland, a longtime fan of the games, who pitched the adaptation directly to FromSoftware and Bandai Namco, the publisher of ‘Elden Ring’. Garland’s previous film, ‘Warfare’, is one of A24’s highest-grossing titles, ranking third in the company’s history with $127 million in worldwide earnings.
‘Elden Ring’ will open a March 2028 slate already packed with major releases, including the original Pixar film ‘Ono Ghost Market’, Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ ‘Oh the Places You’ll Go!’, and ‘Fast Forever’, the final installment of the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise.
