Amazon’s cloud customers in the Middle East face prolonged disruptions as the company confirms months-long repairs are needed for war-damaged data centers. The announcement follows Iranian drone strikes on three Amazon data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, pushing full recovery timelines to nearly half a year.

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) dashboard issued an update on April 30 detailing how its ME-CENTRAL-1 and ME-SOUTH-1 cloud regions “suffered damage as a result of the conflict in the Middle East.” The affected regions are currently unable to support customer applications, and “relevant billing operations are currently suspended while we restore normal operations.” The repair process is expected to take several months.

This update implies that Amazon will continue to waive billing for AWS customers in the impacted regions. The company initially waived all usage-related charges for March 2026, with an estimated cost of $150 million.
