The MacBook lineup is thriving with the MacBook Neo, M5 Pro, M5 Max MacBook Pros, and M5 MacBook Air. However, Apple’s desktop computers—particularly the Mac mini and Mac Studio—tell a different story.

Over the past several months, these desktops have become progressively harder to buy. Apple removed the 512GB M3 Ultra Mac Studio from its website entirely. Other configurations of both the Mac mini and Mac Studio now face shipping delays extending from days to weeks or even months. In recent weeks, multiple models of these desktops have begun appearing as “currently unavailable” on Apple’s website—a rare occurrence even when hardware refreshes are imminent.

This week, as reported by MacRumors, the $599 M4 Mac mini—which includes 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage—was labeled “currently unavailable” for the first time.
