The critically acclaimed second season of Apple TV’s dystopian sci-fi drama Silo concluded with a major cliffhanger, leaving at least one key character’s fate unresolved. Now, the streamer has released the first teaser for Season 3, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the past.
In the teaser, events from the first two seasons are rewound, transporting viewers to a time long before the silo’s current dystopian reality. The footage reveals a lushly green, seemingly idyllic early era of the silo community, centuries before the toxic wasteland outside became the only visible world to its inhabitants.
Spoilers for the first two seasons follow.
Silo’s Premise: A Self-Sustaining Underground City
As previously reported, Silo is based on the bestselling trilogy by novelist Hugh Howey. The series is set in a massive, self-sustaining underground city inhabited by a community whose recorded history spans only 140 years.
Outside the silo lies a toxic, uninhabitable hellscape, visible only on the large screens in the silo’s topmost level. Inside, 10,000 people live under a strict pact: anyone who expresses a desire to “go out” is granted their wish—cast outside in a protective environment suit to clean the external cameras. However, those who make this choice inevitably die shortly afterward due to the toxic conditions.
