Where to Find Salt in Subnautica 2
Salt is a valuable resource in Subnautica 2, essential for unlocking improved food and water recipes. While your Lifepod’s immediate surroundings won’t yield any salt, strategic exploration will lead you to several deposits. Here’s how to find them early and later in your playthrough:
Early-Game Salt Locations
To obtain salt early, follow the game’s main storyline until NOA instructs you to retrieve Chap’s black box. This location is situated 220 meters southeast of your Lifepod, marked by two stone pillars. After collecting the Angel Comb, which unlocks digestion and reveals Anita’s location, a new point of interest (POI) labeled "Blackbox - Chap" will appear.
Head toward the stone pillars and locate the hidden cave beneath them. Due to the cave’s depth, upgrade your equipment—particularly your fins—and equip useful mods from the Bio Lab near your Lifepod. If you’re running low on oxygen, swim into Chap’s room or collect bubbles from nearby Oxygen Tunics.
Inside the cave, you’ll find Chap’s room, which contains a databank log for story progression. Additionally, scan items like the Biobed, Repair Tool, and Bioreactor to unlock new blueprints. Outside the room, you’ll discover several salt, silver, and copper deposits. Salt appears as small, pale pink crystals on the ground, which you can collect and store in your inventory or a portable storage locker. These deposits respawn over time, making this a reliable early source.
Late-Game Salt Locations
Once you’ve unlocked Heat Tolerance, venture farther southeast to a volcanic region. Continue progressing about 500 meters from your Lifepod to find larger salt deposits near dead coral. For safer and faster access, wait until you’ve unlocked vehicles like the Tadpole to avoid aggressive fish encounters.
