Bill Clinton and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones share a long-standing friendship dating back to their time in Arkansas. On Wednesday, Clinton made a surprise appearance at Jones’ pre-draft news conference, catching the Cowboys owner off guard.

A reporter was mid-question when Jones spotted Clinton entering The Star, the team’s training facility in Frisco, Texas, according to Schuyler Dixon of the Associated Press.

As Clinton entered through a side door into the interview room, he quipped,

"I'm negotiating the draft."

Jones momentarily stumbled while exiting the stage to greet the former president but quickly regained his footing.

"He’s been a wonderful, not only president, but a friend over the years," Jones said before leaving the event with Clinton. "And I’m really happy to have you here today."

The news conference was subsequently concluded by executive vice president Stephen Jones and head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
