The Cannes Classics section of the 97th Cannes Film Festival has announced its official lineup, featuring 21 restored feature films, three shorts, six documentaries, and two contemporary films. The announcement was made on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
Among the highlights is Mike Mendez’s documentary “Dernsie: The Amazing Life of Bruce Dern” (2026), which will premiere in the Classics section dedicated to restored prints, films about cinema, and rare titles.
Restored Classics and Premieres
The lineup includes a diverse selection of restored films, such as:
- Guillermo del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth” (2006)
- Ken Russell’s “The Devils” (1971)
- Roger Corman’s “Machine Gun Kelly” (1958)
- Akira Kurosawa’s “Sugata Sanshiro” (1943)
- Kaige Chen’s “Farewell My Concubine” (1993)
- Artavazd Pelechian’s “Pelechian Project” (1966–1975)
- Orson Welles’ “The Stranger” (1945)
Other Festival Sections
The Classics lineup will screen alongside previously announced films across all festival sections, including:
- Main Competition: Pedro Almódovar’s “Amarga Navidad”, Asghar Farhadi’s “Parallel Tales”, James Gray’s “Paper Tiger”
- Un Certain Regard: Judith Godrèche’s “A Girl’s Story”
- Special Screenings: Diego Luna’s “Ashes”, Ron Howard’s “Avedon”
Jury and Dedication
This year’s Cannes Classics is dedicated to the memory of production designer Dean Tavoularis.
The jury for the main competition films will be presided over by Park Chan-wook, with other jurors including Demi Moore, Stellan Skarsgård, Chloé Zhao, Ruth Negga, and Isaach de Bankolé.
