Caterham has unveiled its latest special edition, the Seven Miami Special, timed to coincide with the Miami Grand Prix. This track-only model is a limited-run variant of the Seven R, with only 12 units available globally—10 of which are earmarked for the United States.
The Miami Special Edition stands out with a bespoke Aqua/Pink livery, complemented by Vibrant Pink and White stripes that evoke a vintage racing aesthetic. The model’s identity is further reinforced by a prominent Miami script on the profile and tail. The design includes a 620 Style nosecone with a white "7" on the grille, Clear Lens Pack headlights, a full windscreen, and 13-inch Apollo alloy wheels in a black finish with polished tips.
Inside, the exposed two-seater cabin features a suede Momo quick-release steering wheel, carbon vinyl tunnel top and boot cover, and Miami embroidery on the headrests. Safety is prioritized with a roll cage and fire extinguisher system installed for track use.
Exclusivity and Craftsmanship
The exclusivity of the Miami Special Edition is underscored by two distinct plaques: one on the dashboard indicating the production number and a second in the engine bay bearing the signatures of the two British craftsmen who hand-assembled the vehicle at Caterham’s facility in Kent, UK.
Performance and Specifications
Under the long bonnet, the Miami Special Edition is powered by a Ford-sourced, naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Duratec engine, delivering 210 hp (157 kW / 213 PS) and 150 lb-ft (203 Nm) of torque. Despite its modest output, the car’s lightweight construction—weighing just 1,235 lbs (560 kg)—results in an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 375 hp per tonne.
Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox, aided by sequential shift lights. The performance figures match the standard Seven R, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 136 mph (219 km/h).
Track Debut and Availability
The Seven Miami Special Edition will make its public debut on May 1st at Race Street in the West Campus of the Miami International Autodrome, ahead of the Grand Prix weekend. As a track-only model, it is not street-legal, limiting its use to dedicated racing circuits.
Caterham has not yet announced pricing for the Miami Special Edition, but given its rarity and premium positioning, it is expected to command a significant premium over the base $51,995 starting price of the Seven R. The launch aligns with Caterham’s aggressive expansion plans in the United States.
