Charlie Young, a first-round selection of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1973 NFL Draft, has died. He was 75 years old.
Young was the sixth overall pick out of the University of Southern California (USC). His NFL career spanned 12 seasons across four teams: the Eagles (1973–1975), Los Angeles Rams (1976–1978), San Francisco 49ers (1979–1981), and Seattle Seahawks (1982–1984).
Pro Bowl and All-Pro Accolades in Philadelphia
In his first three seasons with the Eagles, Young established himself as one of the league’s top tight ends. He was named to the Pro Bowl in each of those years. As a rookie in 1973, he earned first-team All-Pro honors. He was selected as a second-team All-Pro in both 1974 and 1975.

Over his 12-year career, Young played in 187 regular-season games, starting 142 of them. He amassed 418 receptions for 5,106 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns. He also appeared in 13 postseason games, contributing to two Super Bowl appearances.

Young played in Super Bowl XIV with the Rams. He then started Super Bowl XVI with the 49ers, helping San Francisco secure a victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
