The Kansas City Chiefs have officially waived quarterback Jake Haener, bringing an end to his time with the team. The announcement was made on Monday, following Haener’s brief stint with the Chiefs.

Haener initially signed a future contract with the Chiefs in February. His NFL journey began when he was selected as a 2023 fourth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints. During the 2024 season, Haener appeared in eight games for the Saints, making one start. In his lone start, he completed 18-of-39 passes for 226 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception.

With Haener’s release, the Chiefs’ quarterback roster now includes:

  • Patrick Mahomes
  • Justin Fields
  • Chris Oladokun
  • Garrett Nussmeier (seventh-round pick)

Additional Roster Moves

In addition to waiving Haener, the Chiefs released defensive linemen Ethan Hurkett and Zacch Pickens.

The team also announced the signings of three players who participated in their rookie minicamp tryouts:

  • Xavier Loyd (wide receiver)
  • Marlen Sewell (defensive back)
  • Kahlil Benson (offensive tackle)
