In September, the remains of 14-year-old Celeste Hernandez, a California native, were discovered inside the front trunk of an impounded Tesla. The vehicle was registered to alternative musician David 'D4vd' Burke, drawing national attention to the case.

Burke was arrested earlier this month and charged with murder, mutilation of remains, and continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14. He has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors allege that Burke stabbed Hernandez to death after she threatened to expose their illicit relationship. Court filings released this week reveal further disturbing details, including Burke's alleged online purchases.

Alleged Amazon and Home Depot Purchases

According to prosecutors, Burke used the fake name 'Victoria Mendez' to buy the following items online:

  • Chainsaws
  • An inflatable pool
  • A body bag
  • A shovel
  • A 'burn cage' in July (to incinerate evidence)

The filings state that Burke allegedly placed Hernandez's body into the blue inflatable pool to contain blood, then used a chainsaw and other tools to dismember her limbs. Biological samples from his garage tested positive for blood, and a medical examiner found blue plastic fragments consistent with the inflatable pool.

"After placing her body into the blue inflatable pool to prevent her blood from spilling onto his garage floor, defendant used a chainsaw and perhaps other tools to cut off her limbs."

Burke's defense team has stated they will present evidence to prove his innocence, asserting that 'actual evidence will show that David did not kill Celeste' and that they 'will vigorously defend David’s innocence.'

Additional Allegations and Industry Response

Prosecutors have also accused Burke of possessing extensive child sexual abuse imagery. The case has shocked the public, particularly given Burke's high-profile career as a musician.

Epic Games, which launched Fortnite in-game items inspired by D4vd around April 2025, announced it would refund customers. The company stated in a tweet: 'We hear the concerns. We have a bunch of changes we’re rolling out over time.'

This case follows earlier reports of a chopped-up human body found in a Tesla registered to the pop singer.
