Jets General Manager Darren Mougey minimized the significance of the team’s decision to cancel a pre-draft visit with edge rusher David Bailey on Tuesday, and Bailey took the same stance the following day. Mougey declined to explain the cancellation but emphasized that such decisions are common and should not be overinterpreted.
Teams often have multiple ways to evaluate prospects beyond in-person visits, which Mougey suggested could account for the change in plans. Bailey, who believes he has built a strong connection with the Jets—holders of the second overall pick—shared a similar perspective.
"They canceled my 30 visit, so I wasn't able to get around the facility and kinda have an in-depth conversation with all the staff and everything, but I had a great interaction with them at the Combine and obviously whatever FaceTime calls we’ve been having."
Bailey recorded 14.5 sacks for Texas Tech last season and is viewed alongside Ohio State edge rusher Arvell Reese as a top candidate for the Jets, who are prioritizing defensive upgrades. The team’s selection at No. 2 will be a pivotal moment on Thursday night, with ripple effects expected throughout the first round of the draft.
