20th Century’s ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ has officially kicked off the 2026 summer box office, grossing $10 million in Thursday preview screenings. The milestone marks a rare triumph for a female-driven legacy sequel securing a prime release slot.
The film’s preview performance closely mirrors last year’s summer kickoff, Marvel Studios’ ‘Thunderbolts*’, which earned $11.5 million in previews and went on to debut with a $74.3 million domestic opening. Analysts project ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ will at least match, if not surpass, that opening weekend.
Early critical and audience reception has been overwhelmingly positive. On Rotten Tomatoes, the sequel holds a 79% critics score and an 88% audience score, aligning with the strong reception of its predecessor.
The film faces competition from Lionsgate’s ‘Michael’, which has recently attracted a predominantly female audience during its opening week.
