Grammy-winning singer Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against tech giant Samsung, accusing the company of illegally using her likeness to promote its television products.
The legal action, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that Samsung exploited Lipa’s image in a series of TV commercials without her consent. According to court documents, the ads featured a lookalike or digital recreation of the singer, which Lipa claims violated her right to publicity and trademark protections.
In the lawsuit, Lipa’s legal team argues that Samsung’s unauthorized use of her likeness caused financial harm and damaged her reputation. The complaint states:
"Samsung’s unauthorized use of Ms. Lipa’s likeness in its advertising campaign constitutes a clear violation of her statutory and common law rights, including her right of publicity and trademark rights."
The lawsuit seeks $15 million in damages, covering lost revenue, reputational harm, and legal fees. Lipa’s representatives have not yet responded to requests for further comment.
This case follows a growing trend of celebrities taking legal action against companies for unauthorized use of their images in advertisements. In recent years, high-profile figures such as Kim Kardashian and Arnold Schwarzenegger have filed similar lawsuits against brands for misappropriation of their likenesses.
Samsung has not yet issued a public response to the allegations. The company has faced multiple legal challenges in the past regarding its marketing practices, including disputes over celebrity endorsements and intellectual property rights.
