Elon Musk’s interactions with a single anonymous account on X, XFreeze, have exceeded those with any other user on the platform this year, according to a new analysis by The Washington Post. The account, traced to a man in India, has become a prominent mouthpiece for Musk, boosting his ventures, attacking his critics, and sharing memes he consistently engages with.
Two years ago, XFreeze had no followers. Today, the account boasts over 200,000 followers, a growth attributed to its relentless praise of Musk. The relationship between Musk and XFreeze appears symbiotic: Musk gains a seemingly organic supporter to amplify his narratives, while XFreeze leverages Musk’s endorsements to drive engagement and visibility.
"Musk loves to be glazed, and this person is the doughnut factory," said Joan Donovan, assistant professor of journalism and emerging media studies at Boston University, in an interview with The Washington Post.
Donovan described XFreeze’s constant adulation of Musk as a "cultural hack," noting that the communication is clearly tailored for one person alone. This dynamic exemplifies Musk’s pattern of surrounding himself with yes-men and his broader efforts to reshape public perception to align with his worldview.
Musk’s Quest to Reshape Reality and Amplify His Narratives
Musk’s pursuit of narrative control is evident in his recent projects. His AI model, Grok, was marketed as a "maximum truth-seeking" alternative to what he described as overly cautious, politically correct chatbots in the tech industry. His acquisition of Twitter—now rebranded as X—transformed the platform into a space where he shares edgy memes, conspiracy theories, and promotes self-identified Nazis. Additionally, dissatisfied with what he perceived as Wikipedia’s "woke" bias, Musk launched Grokipedia, a Wikipedia clone curated by his AI.
In this context, XFreeze has emerged as a valuable asset for Musk. According to The Washington Post, three out of every four posts made by XFreeze this year have been about Musk or his companies, such as SpaceX and Tesla. The remaining posts align with Musk’s favored topics, including critiques of "wokeness" and discussions of crime.

XFreeze’s Rise to Prominence
XFreeze’s journey to prominence began in 2024 when the anonymous account posted, "How do I reach 100 followers on X?" After months of limited traction, the account declared, "Sit tight and have a view while I am working my way up the ladder." Shortly after, XFreeze shifted its focus to relentlessly praising Musk, a strategy that has since paid off in both visibility and influence.
