Epic Games has unveiled a groundbreaking new tool for Fortnite creators: the "conversations" feature, which enables the development of AI-powered characters that players can engage with in unscripted dialogue.
This innovation follows the introduction of an AI-powered Darth Vader in Fortnite last year, which famously replicated James Earl Jones’ iconic voice and delivered swear words in his signature style.
The new "conversations" tool transforms non-player characters (NPCs) into dynamic, AI-driven entities capable of natural interactions. Instead of manually scripting dialogue trees, creators can now define a character’s personality, knowledge, and behavior using simple prompts. They can also select a voice that matches the character’s tone and style.
"Instead of authoring dialogue trees for characters in your islands, conversations transforms an NPC into an AI-powered character capable of unscripted dialogue and interactions with players, like a quest giver or narrator," Epic Games explained in an official statement.
This tool empowers creators to design more immersive and interactive experiences within Fortnite’s virtual worlds, allowing for deeper player engagement and storytelling possibilities.
