For nearly five decades, the UK-based comic 2000 AD has delivered weekly doses of “thrill power” to science-fiction fans. Unlike Marvel and DC, its characters have rarely made the leap from page to screen. Judge Dredd has seen two films—one widely praised, the other divisive—and a planned TV series following the 2012 movie appears to have stalled.
Yet Dredd is not the sole legacy of 2000 AD. Later this year, director Duncan Jones (Moon) will bring another iconic creation to life: Rogue Trooper, whose teaser trailer debuted today.
From Comics to Cinema: Rogue Trooper’s Journey to the Screen
The Rogue Trooper teaser trailer is now available, offering the first glimpse of the adaptation. Created by Gerry Finley-Day and artist Dave Gibbons, Rogue Trooper is a future war epic set on Nu Earth, a planet rendered uninhabitable by chemical warfare.
The Toxic War of Nu Earth
The conflict pits the Southers against the Norts, factions that have saturated the planet with toxins. Survival on the surface requires environmental suits—except for one elite force: the Genetic Infantry. Engineered by the Southers, these blue-skinned super soldiers possess the biological resilience to endure Nu Earth’s poisoned air.
Rogue Trooper follows one such soldier, a lone survivor fighting against overwhelming odds in this brutal, toxic battlefield. The film marks a significant milestone for 2000 AD, proving its characters can thrive beyond the comic page.
