Ford has officially opened orders for the Mustang Dark Horse SC, a high-performance variant of the iconic pony car. The model features a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, delivering 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque.
Pricing for the Dark Horse SC starts at $108,485, which includes destination fees and the federal gas guzzler tax.
Engine Specifications and Performance
When Ford first unveiled the Mustang Dark Horse SC earlier in 2024, the company withheld detailed performance figures. The automaker has since confirmed the supercharged V8’s output, positioning the Dark Horse SC as a formidable competitor in the performance car segment.
The new engine’s 795 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque place it just behind the flagship Mustang GTD, which boasts 815 hp (826 PS) and 664 lb-ft. Compared to the standard Mustang Dark Horse, the SC’s power output represents a significant leap: the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 in the base Dark Horse produces 500 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque. This translates to an increase of 295 hp and 242 lb-ft.
The Dark Horse SC’s power output also more than doubles that of the Porsche 911 Carrera, which is rated at 388 hp. Additionally, the Mustang outpaces the now-discontinued Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, which produced 717 hp. However, it falls short of several high-performance Dodge models, including the 797 hp Hellcat Redeye, 807 hp SRT Super Stock, and SRT Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak, as well as the 1,025 hp SRT Demon 170.
In the Chevrolet camp, the Dark Horse SC surpasses the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which features a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. The Mustang’s performance now places it in the same league as the Corvette Grand Sport X (721 hp) and ZR1 (1,064 hp).
