Bandai Namco and Sunrise unveiled the Gundam 50th Anniversary Project “A Boy with Gundam” anime prologue movie during the Conference Spring 2026 presentation. The nearly six-minute tribute celebrates the enduring love for the Mobile Suit Gundam series, featuring a cameo from Amuro Ray, the iconic pilot from the original series.
The prologue movie is accessible on both the English and Japanese official Gundam accounts. The English version includes automatic English subtitles for the song featured in the video.
It is important to note that the characters and situations in “A Boy with Gundam” may not appear in future anime or projects tied to the 50th Anniversary. Instead, this prologue serves as a lead-up celebration ahead of the actual anniversary in 2029. Bandai Namco is currently preparing multiple projects as part of the Road to 50 initiative to build anticipation for the milestone.
The prologue movie is set in the real world, depicting a gathering of people observing the Moving Gundam, a life-size, mobile recreation of a Gundam unit that has appeared in Japan. The narrative follows one man reflecting on how the original Mobile Suit Gundam inspired awe in him and his family across generations. The video concludes with references to Amuro Ray and other notable pilots and series from the franchise. The entire prologue is set to the song “Masterpiece” by People 1.
