Hisense has made a bold move by cutting the price of its UR9 RGB LED TV by more than 40% on the day of its release, addressing concerns over its initial cost.

The UR9, recognized as the first RGB LED TV of 2024, now offers significantly lower pricing compared to its original announcement. The 65-inch model is priced at $1,999, the 75-inch at $2,999, and the 85-inch at $3,999. Pricing for the 100-inch model has not yet been updated.

This price reduction translates to savings between $1,500 and $2,000 depending on the screen size.

Original Pricing Criticized in Review

In a review published by The Verge, the UR9’s initial price of $3,500 for the 65-inch model was highlighted as a major drawback. The reviewer noted that even flagship OLED TVs from competitors like LG and Samsung were more affordable. For example, the LG G6 and Samsung S95H were priced lower, despite OLED technology generally offering superior performance compared to RGB LED displays at the time.

Remarkably, the price cut came just two days after the review was published, suggesting a rapid response to market feedback.

Competitive Landscape Shifts

Samsung’s own high-end RGB LED TV, the R95H, had its pricing revealed shortly after the UR9’s initial review. This further intensified competition in the premium TV market, where RGB LED technology is positioning itself as a more affordable alternative to OLED.

Hisense’s aggressive pricing strategy may help the UR9 gain traction among consumers seeking high-end visuals without the premium cost of OLED panels.
