Honda has teased a 2027 Prelude Limited Edition exclusively for the Japanese market, with details emerging ahead of any formal reveal. The new special edition is expected to introduce fresh color combinations and enhanced equipment, arriving as local demand for the hybrid coupe appears to be cooling.
The 2027 Prelude Limited Edition was confirmed by Honda’s official website, which states the model is “Coming Soon.” The reveal strategy remains minimal, featuring a single image of the car shrouded in shadow against a sunset backdrop.
While the teaser is restrained, additional details have surfaced through the Honda Total Care app, shared with customers in Japan. The app describes the update as equipment and colors that “further enhance the Prelude’s inherent character as a sophisticated specialty sports car.”
New Colors and Enhanced Equipment
The 2027 Prelude Limited Edition will feature a Bordeaux and Black interior, paired with red accents. Exterior updates include a shift from blue highlights to red, with the bodywork rumored to wear Premium Crystal Garnet Metallic, a deep wine-red shade not currently part of the standard palette but previously seen on the ZR-V SUV.
The wheels are expected to remain unchanged, retaining the same 19-inch design as the current model.
No Mechanical Changes Expected
Beyond the revised color scheme and expanded standard equipment list, the 2027 Prelude Limited Edition is not anticipated to include any changes beneath the surface. The Prelude continues to be powered exclusively by a 2.0-liter e:HEV self-charging hybrid powertrain, featuring the “Honda S+ Shift” system for simulated gear changes. The chassis components are borrowed from the Civic Type R, though they are tuned differently to align with the Prelude’s grand touring focus.
It remains unclear whether the Limited Edition will be the sole update for the 2027 model year or if Honda has additional, quieter tweaks planned. Historically, such special editions are typically confined to the Japanese market, though there is a possibility it could expand to the U.S. market.
Cooling Demand Prompts Special Edition
The announcement comes as reports indicate cooling demand for the Prelude in Japan. Delivery times for the model have shortened to just one or two months, a stark contrast to Honda’s high-demand models. This suggests a strategic move to rekindle buyer interest in the hybrid coupe.
