How to Release the Lifepod Clamps in Subnautica 2

The lifepod in Subnautica 2 is your gateway to progress, but it won’t budge until you disable a pair of clamps locking it in place. Follow these steps to release the lifepod and continue your underwater adventure.

Step 1: Locate the Lifepod

After waking up and completing the Alien DNA sampling in the wrecked ship, proceed to the Black Box. From there, move deeper into the wreck until you reach the lifepod. This area serves as a safe zone where you can recharge your oxygen.

Step 2: Attempt to Launch the Lifepod

When you try to activate the lifepod to ascend to the ocean surface, you’ll receive an error message. The pod is locked in place by clamps, which must be disabled before launch.

Step 3: Find and Disable the Clamps

The clamps are located behind the lifepod. Swim to either side of the pod, then turn right or left to spot two amber-lit clamps (see image below).

Approach and interact with one clamp to release it. Return to the lifepod to refill your oxygen before attempting the second clamp. Releasing both clamps at once can be risky—oxygen depletion is a real threat in the dark depths.

Step 4: Launch the Lifepod

Once both clamps are disabled, re-enter the lifepod and interact with the portal to initiate the launch. The pod will ascend to the ocean surface, but note that you cannot return to the prolog area afterward. Ensure you’ve fully explored the shipwreck before launching.
